Dropbox.com – Your Free Secure Data Backup and Sharing Solution

So what is Dropbox.com?

Dropbox is an online software that allows you to setup a share folder on your computer that is securely stored on the Dropbox servers in the cloud. This folder appears by default in your my documents folder. Drop whatever you want in this folder (free accounts are up to 2GB in storage) and it immediately gets synced to the Dropbox servers. It takes about 5 minutes to create an account and install the software on your PC. So right away you have a backup copy on a secure online server. So in the event that you lose your laptop or computer HD gets fried, you still have your files safely backed up on Drop box’s secure server.

Access your Dropbox files anywhere!

Yep, that's right. Go ahead and access your files from any computer that you log into. You can access your files directly from their website. Or you can also install their software on the other computer you use and it will setup a Dropbox folder in your my documents folder and automatically update all the files. Once you save the file from one location, that file will sync with the server and when you log on to your other computer that file will automatically refresh to the latest version. Brilliant!

Share Dropbox folders with friends, family, and business colleagues. Read more »

How To Backup your Gmail Email Account

I am a big advocate of Google and all their awesome FREE services, however with something as important as email you don't want to be at the mercy of Google. If you don't have a backup of your gmail account you will have nobody to blame but yourself.

Also, I think with the launch of Google +, doing regular backups of your gmail account is even more important than ever. Google is entering the social network sphere and all of us with Google accounts are part of that social network. Now where you can get into trouble, is if Google suspends your account because of misuse. There have been some people that have had their accounts suspended due to violations of the user terms. Most of these people were probably spammers, but you never know, something you might do will have Google's robots turning the suspension switch on for your account. Imagine losing all of your data you have amassed over the years. So here are a few ways to backup your data.

Backing up your Iphone App saved game/app data

If you have multiple iOS devices, you may run into a problem of transferring apps to other devices and keeping the saved data in that game or application. A good example of this is a app called My Japanese Coach which I use from time to time. Well, I sure as heck don't want to have to go from lesson 1 all the way through lesson X to get back to where I left off. If you redownload this app from the app store you will be left with a blank slate and will have to start the game over from the beginning. Luckily there is a way to avoid this. You will want to download a software called iExplorer.
